ACCORDs - Predicting 2D NMs health and environmental risks

Project duration: 1 Jan 2023 - 30 Jun 2026
Client: State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation - SERI

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

ACCORDs is a project developing Green Deal inspired correlative imaging-based characterisation for safety profiling of 2D materials to evaluate the risks of 2D NMs onto health and environment.

Graphene-based nanomaterials are gaining increasing attention mainly due to their applications in biotechnology, biomedicine, bio-engineering, disease diagnosis and therapy. In fact, the intensive utilisation of graphene and other two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials has also increased the need for an assessment of their impact on the environment and health. Therefore, the EU-funded ACCORDs project is developing an imaging-based characterisation framework for the holistic correlative assessment of Graphene Family Materials (GFMs) as a representative of 2D nanomaterials. ACCORDs will translate principles of medical imaging-based diagnostics to 2D material hazard diagnostics. It will accelerate industrial sectors in the area of aviation, marine construction, drone production, flexible electronics, photovoltaics, photocatalytics and print inks-based sensors.

During the project, Edelweiss Connect develops a central data repository in the form of an interactive Knowledge Infrastructure (KI). The ACCORDs KI contains all project relevant data such as Protocols, Material passports, Measurement Data, Results and Publications where it is managed in a Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) manner. This data is also used for the characterisation of the materials thereby enhancing the approaches to improved assessment of such materials.
